New York’s Freest Art School, BHQFU, presents TIMESHARE, the first collaborative curatorial project by the 2015-16 FUG Fellows. Pitting pre-digital memories against post-digital landscapes, TIMESHARE focuses on the use of nostalgia in the work of eight young artists.

As hyper-connected culture makes it increasingly difficult to divorce one’s sentiments from the digital commons, nostalgia can enable artists to speak with a sincerity stemming from personal histories. Intimate signs and narratives imbue physical art objects with an honesty that can be difficult to access in a postmodern world. However, by mythologizing one’s personal history, does the artist use nostalgia to find understanding in the present, or merely to escape it? With practices incorporating private languages, the disambiguation of familiar consumer imagery, and the blurring of time and space, the work of Rebecca Aston, Andrew Birk, Parker Bright, Adam Echahly, Nina Freeman, Winslow Laroche, Azikiwe Mohammed, and Andrew Ross utilizes the past as a salve for the present. TIMESHARE will include numerous free public programs throughout the month of March.
